‘Rainbow Wheel’ is an explosion of colour and eccentricity. The inspiration coming after a trip to Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong is clearly visible over the garments. Old traditional decorative elements like embroidered orchids are then covered in plastic which referring to the designer explanation is meant to protect something so precious and beautiful. The embroidery is then applied over contrasting neon colours, baby pink and dark green and shimmery fabrics . The two designer collaborated with photographer Michael Wolf and the My Little Pony franchise to realise this magically creative collection. The playful and childish combination of baby pink with neon colours, vinyl and pastel faux fur, embellished with embroidered illustrations of “my little pony” is in complete juxtaposition with the prints realised with Wolf’s photographs which instead portrayed the grey and decadent buildings of Hong Kong. The outcome was a really powerful and young show that made me fall in love with this two designers.
